Beef Stew (slow cooker)

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg McCormick Slow Cookers Hearty Beef Stew
  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 2 lbs. Angus round stewing beef
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 onion sliced/diced (medium size)
  • 3 potatoes peeled and then diced
  • 6 to 10 carrots peeled and then sliced into 1 inch lengths (I like hefty carrot slices)
  • 1 cup sliced green beans ( fresh or frozen)
  • 2 cups sliced portobello mushrooms
  • 1 -2 stalks celery sliced
  • 2-3 cloves garlic minced ( I like to garlic press one of the cloves)
  • 1 Tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp tarragon
  • 1 tsp basil
  • 1/2 tsp thyme (I like French)
  • 2 bay leaves (I like Turkish)
  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups beef broth to just level cover all ingredients

Preparation

Step 1

Mix McCormick packet with 1 1/3 cups water and put in slow cooker followed by all the ingredients. I cook on high for 6 hours.


(I do not flour and pan sear the beef before adding to the slow cooker - I find it doesn't make any difference)
