Brown Sugar Crumb Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

1. Rub the flour, sugar, salt and shortening together until they resemble coarse crumbs. Take out 1/2 cup of these crumbs and put aside to use on top of cake. Combine baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg.

2. Dissolve baking soda into milk; beat eggs and vanilla, add them to the milk. Stir this mixture into the dry ingredients. Pour into a greased 13x9" greased baking pan. Scatter reserved crumbs on top of batter.

3. Bake in a preheated 350F oven for 30-40 mins.
