Ingredients
- TOPPING:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt (Some people like sea salt)
- 1 1/2 tbsp. baking powder (1 tbsp plus 1 1/2 tsp.)
- 3 tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. oregano or basil or cracked rosemary (optional)
- 1 12-oz. bottle beer,room temperature
- 1/2 stick butter (1/4 cup)melted
- 1/4 tsp. granulated gharlic powder, (optional)
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 deg. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, sugar and herbs if using. Add the beer and stir until blended. Put in a lightly-greased loaf pan (5 X 9) and bake for 1 hour. Combine the butter and garlic (if using). Remove the bread from the oven. Pour the butter mixture over the top. Allow the bread to rest in the pan for 10-15 minutes before removing. The bread is easier to slice when cool, but it tastes too good to wait. The decision is yours.
