French Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cup hot water
  • 2 pkg. Yeast (2 tbsp)
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 6 cups flour

Preparation

Step 1

Measure out flour and add in yeast.

Combine hot water, sugar, salt, and oil in a mixer.
Stir in 3 cups of the flour using a mixer.

Add remaining flour until blended and rest 10 minutes.

Punch down and rest 10 minutes (repeat 5 times)

Turn dough out onto floured surface and cut in half.
roll each part into about a 9x12 rectangle.
Roll up like cinnamon buns. pinch seam together and place facing down onto the greased cookie sheet.

Cover with a tea towel and raise 30 mintues.
Slash diagonally about 4 times 2 1/2 inches apart.
Brush slightly with egg.

Bake @ 350
approx. 20-30 minutes until golden.
