Baked Apple Turnovers

Ingredients

  • Cooked Apples:
  • 10 cooking apples, peeled and sliced (about 4 1/2 lbs.)
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/4 c. frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed and undiluted
  • 1 Tb. lemon juice
  • 1 (15 oz.) pkg. refrigerated piecrusts
  • 2 Tb. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

For Cooked Apples: Combine all ingredients in a 4-qt. Dutch oven, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Yield: about 5 1/2 cups.

For Turnovers: Cut pastry into eight 4 1/2" circles. Spoon 1 1/2 Tb. Cooked Apples on one half of each circle. Moisten edges with water; fold dough over apple mixture, pressing edges to seal. Crimp with a fork. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet, and bake at 425 degrees for 13-15 minutes. Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over turnovers.
