Mama Gette's Sweet & Sour Meatballs

Ingredients

  • Meatball:
  • 1 lb ground ham (I use a ham steak that has been chopped with a food processor)
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 2 cups of bread crumbs (I prefer to use the Italian bread crumbs for extra flavour)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Sauce:
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup vinegar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp dry mustard

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl beat eggs with a fork. Add ground ham and pork. Mix well with beaten egg,then add bread crumbs and salt. Mix these ingredients well before adding milk. Mix again. Form mixture in to small balls. Place balls in large shallow baking dish (13"x9") in single layer.

In a seperate bowl mix sauce ingredients together. Whisk until sugar is disolved. Then pour sauce on to prepared meat balls.

Cook, uncovered for 40 minutes at 325.

Serve over a bed of rice!

Note: I find this recipe rather large, so I end up using two shallow dishes, and making 1 1/2 times the sauce recipe so I can have a little more sauce when I split it amongst to dishes for the balls to cook in.

This recipe freezes well.
