Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • safflower oil for frying
  • powdered sugar
  • opt: add a little sugar to dough
  • add salt

Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water
Put the remaining water in a large pan & add flour & sugar all at once, beating vigorously
Beat in the yeast & & quickly turn the dough out onto a marble slab or pastry board
Knead with greased hands til smooth
Put the dough into a bowl, cover with a cloth & let rise in a warm place til doubled in bulk
Heat 3" of oil, fry walnut sized pieces of dough til golden brown
Take from pan & drain on paper towels
Sprinkle w/powdered sugar
