Mom’s Shrimp Creole

Ingredients

  • Frozen shrimp
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 16 oz canned tomatoes
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • Tabasco
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (or flour)
  • 7 oz shrimp
  • 1/2 cup green pepper, chopped

Preparation

Step 1

Saute onion, celery, and garlic in oil until tender. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce and seasonings.

Simmer uncovered for 45 minutes. Mix cornstarch with 2 tsp of water (slurry) and stir into sauce. Cook until it thickens. Add shrimp and green pepper.

Cover and simmer for about 5 minutes.

Serve over rice.
