Aunt Pat’s Lasagna

Ingredients

  • Meat Sauce:
  • 1 lb 13 oz. tomato puree (Progresso or California Heavy recommended)
  • 1 onion - diced
  • 1 clove garlic - minced
  • olive oil
  • Salt & Pepper
  • 2 fresh basil leaves - chopped
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp to 2 Tbsp - Sugar
  • 1 lb. round steak/sirloin
  • sausage
  • 1 package of lasagna noodles (Ronzini)- cooked
  • 15 oz. whole milk ricotta
  • 8 oz. shredded mozzarella
  • romano cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • parsley

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

For Sauce:
1. Trim and cut steak into cubes. Salt & pepper the meat.

2. Brown in oil over medium high heat. Add onions and saute over low heat; add garlic.

3. Put puree in pot and add 1 cup water and meat mixture, basil and oregano. add 1 tbsp of olive oil.

4. Heat everything til bubbly then simmer for 2½ hours. Add sugar when finished cooking.

For Filling:

In bowl, mix together ricotta, cheeses, eggs and parsley.

To assemble:

1. In casserole dish, cover bottom with sauce. Layer with noodles, cheese filling, sauce and repeat. Cover top with layer of cheese filling and sauce.

2. Bake until bubbly
