Ingredients

  • 2 pkg (1/4 ounce each) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water (110-115 degrees)
  • 1/3 cup plus 1 Tsp sugar (divided)
  • 1 1/4 cup warm milk (110-115 degrees)
  • 1/2 cup melted and cooled butter or margarine
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 6 to 6 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • Optional: Additional melted butter or margarine

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and 1 tsp sugar.

Add:
milk
butter
salt
remaining sugar
eggs
3 cups flour

Beat mixture until smooth

Stir in enough flour to form a soft dough

Put dough onto a floured surface then knead until it is smooth and elastic (about 6-8 minutes)adding additional flour as needed.

Place in a greased bowl,turning once to grease the top.

Cover and let it rise in a warm place until dough doubles in size (about 1 hour)then punch dough down.

Place on lightly floured surface and divide in half. Dividing each half into 12 pieces. Shape each peice into a ball.

place into 2 greased 13X9X2 baking pans.

Cover and let rise until doubled (about 30 minutes)

Uncover and bake at 375 for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from oven and lightly brush with melted butter.

Note: If cooking for two, freeze baked rolls in heavy duty freezer bags and thaw when ready to use.
