Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1/4 cup apple butter or applesauce
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cups finely chopped, unpeeled apples
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350 F.
Mix the flour, salt, baking powder, cinnamon, and sugar together in a medium bowl.
Whisk the butter, apple butter, eggs, and milk in a large measuring cup. Stir gently into the dry ingredients, then fold in the apples.
Spoon batter into a greased doughnut pan, filling each almost full.
Mix the 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon together; sprinkle over doughnuts.
Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown and a wooden toothpick inserted in centers comes out clean.
Cool in pan on a wire rack for 5 minutes, then remove and let cool completely on the rack.
Repeat for the remaining batter.
