Hamburger Upside-Down Casserole

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 3 tbs butter
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 8oz tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp oregano
  • 8 oz shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 eggs (beaten)
  • 3/4 cup milk

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Prepare macaroni as directed.

In large skillet, cook beef with onions and garlic until beef is no longer pink; drain. Stir in tomato sauce, salt, pepper, and oregano.

Toss macaroni with shredded cheese. In greased 2qt baking dish, press meat into the bottom. Pack noodles on top of meat mixture. Combine egg and milk and pour over macaroni mixture.

Bake for 1 1/2 hours or until custard is set. Remove from oven and let set 15 - 20 minutes. Loosen edges with a knife and carefully turn upside down on a plate to serve.
