Ingredients

  • 1

    Pkg German Chocolate

  • 1/2

    Cup Water (Hot)

  • 2

    Cups Sugar

  • 1

    Cup Shortening

  • 4

    Egg Yolks

  • 4

    Egg Whites (beaten til stiff)

  • 2 1/2

    Cups Flour

  • 1

    Tsp Soda

  • 1

    Tsp Vanilla

  • 1/2

    Tsp Salt

  • 1

    Cup Buttermilk

  • Icing Ingredients:

  • 1

    Large Can Carnation Milk

  • 3

    Egg Yolks

  • 1

    Cup Sugar

  • 1/4

    lb Butter (1 stick)

  • 1

    Can Angel Flake Coconut

  • 1

    Pkg Chopped Nuts

  • 1

    Tsp Vanilla

Directions

Melt chocolate in water and cool. Cream Shortening, sugar add beaten yolks. Add 3/4 cup buttermilk, Alternate with flour, in which salt has been added. Add soda to remaining buttermilk and combine with chocolate mixture, add vanilla to egg whites and fold in. Bake 35-40 minutes @ 350 degrees 9"x13" Pan. Icing Directions. Add can of Milk, eggs, sugar & butter stir well over medium heat until it thickens. add Angel Flake, nuts & vanilla allow to cool. frosting is slightly runny.
