Easy Chocolate Cake

A chocolate cake is ideal for any occasion that is not only delicious but is easy to make. Follow the steps below to create a soft, moist and indulgent chocolate cake using natural flavours that everyone will love.

Ingredients

  • For the Cake
  • 225 g/8oz plain flour
  • 350 g/12 1/2oz caster sugar
  • 85 g/3oz cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 free-range eggs
  • 250 ml/9fl oz milk
  • 125 ml/4 1/2fl oz vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp Tasteful Creations Madagascan Vanilla Natural Flavouring
  • 250 ml/9fl oz boiling water
  • For the Icing
  • 200 g/7oz plain chocolate
  • 200 ml/7fl oz double cream

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4. Take 2 sandwich tins 20cm/8in and grease and line them.
Using a large mixing bowl, place in all of the cake ingredients except the boiling water. Mix ingredients until well combined and smooth.
Add the boiling water a little at a time and continue to mix. The cake mixture should be fairly liquid and smooth.
Place the mixture equally in the sandwich tins and bake for 25-35 mins. The cake is ready when the top is firm.
Remove the cakes from the oven and allow to cool.
To make the chocolate icing, add the chocolate and cream to a saucepan and gently heat until the chocolate has melted. Remove from the heat and mix in a separate bowl until the mixture is glossy and smooth. Set aside to cool for approx 1-2 hours.
Carefully remove the cakes from their tins and spread some of the icing over the top of the cakes. Place the cakes on top of one another.
Ice the cake all over and your chocolate cake is ready.
