  • For Steak:
  • 1 lb flank steak, sliced
  • 1 tbs worchestersire sauce
  • 1 tbs oil
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 c thinly sliced onion
  • 1/2 c thinly sliced peppers
  • 1/2 c button mushrooms, sliced
  • For Cheese Sauce:
  • 1/2 tbs butter
  • 1/2 c cold milk
  • 1/2 tbs cornstarch
  • 4 oz shredded horseradish cheddar or sharp white
  • For the Sandwiches:
  • butter for skillet
  • 8 slices sourdough bread

Step 1

Slice steak very thinly, Toss the sliced steak with worchestershire sauce. Set aside. heat oil in lrg skillet, add steak, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and cook over med high heat turning occasionally to brown on all sides, about 8 mins. While steak cooks, slice vegetables. Place butter for the cheese sauce in small saucepan and let melt over med low heat. Stir in cold milk, cornstarch together and then pour into the melted butter. Let it heat up slowly. Remove the steak to plate and add onions, peppers and mushrooms to skillet. Let them cook over med high heat until they are tender. Stirring occasionally. about 6 mins. When milk mixture is warm, remove it from the heat and stir in the cheese until smooth. Once vegetables are cooked, add them to the steak and toss to combine. Melt butter in skillet and one slice sourdough bread, top bread with steak and veggie mixture. Spoon the cheese sauce over the steak. Top with second slice bread. Turn sandwich to grill the second side.
