Ingredients

  • oil
  • 1/2 tsp minced ginger
  • 1 tbs minced garlic
  • 1/2 c soy sauce
  • 1/2 c water
  • 2/3 c brown sugar
  • 1 lb flank steak
  • 1/4 c cornstarch
  • 3 scallions, green parts only

Step 1

Heat 2 tsp oil over med high heat. Add ginger, garlic and saute about 2 mins. Add soy sauce and water, stirring to combine. Stir in brown sugar and increase heat to med. Bring the sauce to boil for 3 mins. Remove the sauce from heat and set aside. Slice the flank steak against the grain, into 1/4 inch pieces. then toss in with the cornstarch, place coated pieces of steak in sieve and shake off excess cornstarch. Allow the steak to sit for 10 mins. Place lrg saute pan over med high heat and add 1/2 c oil. Once oil is hot, add beef to pan and saute for 2 mins, until it is seared on all sides. Remove the steak from pan and transfer to paper towel. pour any excess oil out of pan. Place saute pan back over med heat, add prepared sauce to the hot pan, then add reserved steak and cook at a boil, stirring constantly, for 2 mins. add sliced scallions. Transfer to plate and serve
