Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups pecan halves, toasted and salted
  • 1/2 to 1 cup (3 to 6 ounces) semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • Caramel Layer
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Blend together flour, sugar; cut in butter with a pastry blender until particles are fine. Press into an ungreased 13x9 inch pan. Sprinkle with nuts. Make carmel layer: pour over nuts. Bake at 350 degrees about 20 minutes. Sprinkle immediately with chocolate chips; spread when melted. Cut into bars.


For caramel layer combine butter and sugar in saucepan; cook over medium heat until sugar is dissolved and mixture begins to boil, stirring constantly. Boil 45-60 seconds, stirring constantly.

Makes 5 to 8 dozen, depending on size.
