Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- Sift above ingredients and add 1 cup oatmeal. Cut in 1/2 cup shortening. Work with fingers until pie crust consistency. Put half in ungreased 8x8 pan and press down.
- Cover quite thickly with 6 sliced cooking apples. Sprinkle with about 1/2 cup brown sugar and dot with butter. Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup chopped walnuts to remaining half of mixture and spread on top. Press down tight.

Bake until apples are tender, or about 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees.
