Easy Macaroni Turkey/Hamburger Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. hamburger or ground turkey
  • 1 round onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce plus one can water
  • 1 (8 oz.) pkg. elbow macaroni
  • 1 (8 oz) pkg. mild cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 bay leaf, optional
  • 1/2 c. ketchup
  • Tomatoes, diced (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Brown hamburger/turkey, onion, bell pepper and celery. Add tomato sauce, can of water, spices and ketchup, and tomatoes. Simmer on low for 30 minutes.

Boil macaroni, rinse and set aside until sauce has simmered. Pour macaroni into 9x13 pan and added hamburger sauce and stir. Add the cheese and gently fold into mixture, reserve some cheese to sprinkle on top. Cover pan with foil.

Bake at 350 degrees uncovered for 45 minutes. Remove bay leaf before serving.
