Salisbury Steak and Bacon Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 lb leans ground beef
  • 1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp ketchup (for patties)
  • 2 tsp ground mustard (for patties)
  • 2 tsp garlic powder (for patties)
  • 2 tbsp worcestershire sauce (for patties)
  • salt and pepper to taste (for patties)
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 lb bacon sliced
  • 1 onion halved and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 2tsp cornstarch mixed with a bit of beef broth before adding
  • Salt and pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, mustard, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste.
Divide mixture into 4 patties. Pat down until 1/2 inch thick.
Heat a skillet on medium heat. Add butter and olive oil. Once butter has melted add patties. Cook 3-5 minutes per side then remove from pan and set aside.
Add bacon to pan and cook until fat is rendered out. Add onion and cook onions until lightly brown and beginning to turn translucent.
Add beef broth, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for 5-10 minutes on high, or until mixture has reduced and has begun to thicken. Stir in cornstarch, mixed with a little broth and cook until desired thickness.
Add patties back to sauce and heat.
