Birgitte's Orange Tart (Orangekuchen)
By norsegal8
Birgitte is a home economist for the Danish cheese association. the Danies have produced fruit-flavored cream cheeses for several years and bake them into tarts and cheesecakes such as this one. The flavored cheese is not always available, so I went back to the recipe from which the inspiration for the flavored cheese originally came!

Ingredients
- FILLING:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon cold water
- 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
- 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 3 eggs
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 cup chopped candied orange peel
- 1/2 cup slivered blanched almonds
Preparation
Step 1
Measure the flour and sugar into a bowl, or into the work bowl of a food processor with the steel blade in place. Add the butter and cut in with a fork or process using on/off pulses until the pastry is the consistency of coarse crumbs. Mix the egg yolk and water and add to the dry ingredients. Blend until a dough forms. Chill for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Roll out the pastry and fit it into an 11-inch round tart pan or into a 13 x 9-inch jelly roll pan. Bake for 15 minutes until the edges begin to brown.
Meanwhile, in a large bowl, cream the cheese with the orange peel, orange juice, eggs, sugar, vanilla and candied orange peel. Whip until light and fluffy. Pour into the partially baked crust and sprinkle with the almonds.
Bake for 35 minutes more or until the tart is set and the edges are golden.
