Ingredients
- FILLING:
- 1 recipe Classic Danish Pastry dough or Quick Method
- 1 cup apricots or dried prunes
- 2/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 slightly beaten egg
- sliced almonds
- ICING:
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 1/2 teaspoons milk
Preparation
Step 1
In a small saucepan, simmer the apricots or prunes in the water for 30 minutes, covered, until soft. Cool, mash or chop the fruit, add the sugar, and chill.
Cover two large baking sheet with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Roll the pastry out on a lightly floured board to make a 20-inch square. Cut into 4-inch squares. Dot the center of each square with filling. Fold each of the 4 corners to the center and press down well. Place on the prepared baking sheets. Brush well with egg and sprinkle with sliced almonds. Let rise 15 to 30 minutes until puffy. bake 8 to 10 minutes until just golden. Drizzle pastries with the icing.
