Gil's Green Beans

A great tasting side dish thats quick and easy and is full of beautiful color! I came up with this to go with a traditional thanksgiving dinner. Will try with steaks next time.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz Pack of french green beans
  • 2 tbs Butter
  • 3 tbs Olive Oil
  • 1/4 Cup Sliced Almonds
  • 1/4 Cup dried Cranberries
  • 1/2 Pack of real bacon pieces. The kind that oscar meyer makes found by the salad dressing.
  • 2 tbs Soy Sauce
  • 5 shakes of garlic powder
  • 5 shakes of salt
  • 3 grinds of pepper
  • 1/3 cup Shaved Bellafoglia Parmesan (you could also try manchego)

Step 1

Blanch your beans in salted water. I did mine for 6 minutes. While this is going on, grab a big saucepan and put the oil and butter in it and put it on mid heat to warm things up. Once the butter is melted drop the heat to low and throw in the bacon, the almonds and the cranberries. stir that around for a few minutes until the almonds are lightly toasted.

Throw in your green beans to the sauce pan along with the soy sauce, the garlic powder, the salt and pepper to taste. Stir it all up and then take the green beans out and lay in a row across a serving dish. A white rectangular dish is preferred. To play off the shape of the beans. So put those in a row. All of the goodness is going to be on the bottom of your saucepan. Spoon that out across the green beans. then top with the parmesan.
