Fried Green Tomatoes with Garlic, Bacon, Buttermilk

Ingredients

  • Garlic-Buttermilk Coating:
  • 8 green tomatoes
  • 4 tsp sea salt
  • 2 c buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 tsp chili sauce
  • Mix, and set aside
  • Breading:
  • 3 c flour
  • 2 c yellow corn starch
  • 1 c italian bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • salt
  • mix and set aside
  • Garlic-Bacon-Buttermilk Sauce:
  • 4 slices bacon, cooked, crumbled
  • 1/4 c buttermilk
  • 1/2 c mayonnaise
  • 2 tbs italian parsley
  • 2 tbs chives
  • 1 tsp dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp chili sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp each sea salt and pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Combine buttermilk and mayo. add bacon, parsley, chives, mustard, chili sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper. cover and chill.
Prepare Tomatoes:
Lay on paper towel, sprinkle with salt, let sweat 30 mins. Shake liquid off and pat dry. Heat oil, Dip tomatoes in buttermilk-garlic coating, then in flour mixture. Repeat both steps. Fry tomatoes 2-4 mins. Drain on paper towel. Serve with Garlic-Bacon-Buttermilk Sauce
