Ingredients
- Decorations :
- 1 box of your favorite white cake recipe (scratch or mix)
- 1 cup crushed Oreos (plus more for sprinkling on top of cakes, if desired)
- Marischino cherries
- Chocolate Shavings
- Leftover crumbled chocolate cake, optional
Preparation
Step 1
Make your favorite white cake recipe in greased and floured 9x13 pan or 2 round (8 or 9") cake pans. Mix 1 cup crushed Oreos in the batter.
Bake according to your white recipe directions (package or homemade)
When the cake has cooled, spread the frosting in between round layers and completely around top and sides' (For 9x13 " cake spread frosting on top and on sides --Decorate using pastry tips for swirls on top(see phote) and sprinkle more crushed Oreos over frosting on top and decorate with cherries, if desired
OR:
Add chocolate shavings on top and arounds sides of cake and marischino cherries for decorations, and or crumbled chocolate cake around cake instead of chocolate shavings, as desired (see sample photo).
You can also add a bit of food coloring to the frosting for various holidays. (Pink for Valentines, Yellow for Easter, Green for Christmas etc.)
*+CREAMY WHITE FROSTING:+*
6 cups powdered sugar
2/3 cup shortening (Crisco)
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp. clear vanilla or almond extract
Mix the sugar & shortening in a medium bowl with an electric mixer on low speed. Stir in milk and vanilla, a few drops at a time, until smooth. Add more milk to desired decorating consistency--not too soft or too thick.
Optional: Add a bit of food coloring to the frosting for various holidays.
