Ingredients

  • Roll Dough:
  • 1 Tbsp. yeast
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. butter, softened
  • 1/2 c. scalded milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. hot water
  • Let yeast sit in warm water until dissolved. Add 2 c. four, then gradually add remaining ingredients.
  • Raise until double in bulk (about 1 hour)
  • Filling:
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1 c. diced onions
  • 1 Tbsp. Parmesan cheese
  • 1 Tbsp. sesame or poppy seeds
  • 1 tsp. garlic
  • 1 tsp. paprika

Preparation

Step 1

Cook all on medium heat in frying pan until onions are clear but not brown. Let cool while bread finishes rising.
Divide dough into three balls and roll into long 1 to 3 inch-wide strips of equal length. Put filling down each section, fold over and pinch tight. Braid.
Let rise about 1/2 hour.
Brush with beaten egg whites. Sprinkle with additional sesame or poppy seeds.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Don't overcook.
So good served warm!!
