Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 large onion
  • 1/2 medium green or red pepper
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons red wine vinegar or cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 6 ounce can tomato paste
  • salt and pepper -- to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Cook beef in skillet, adding the onion as you chop it. Cook, turning and breaking up the meat until crumbled and brown. Chop pepper and add to pot. Add brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire and garlic, then stir in tomato sauce and tomato paste. Lower heat to a simmer and cook 5 minutes more, stirring until all of the tomato paste is thoroughly incorporated. Season with salt and pepper.
