Ingredients
- French Onion Soup (Condensed):
- 1 cup onion (finely diced)
- 2 TBS olive oil
- 2 TBS molasses
- 1 1/2 cups beef stock (or broth)
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 2 tsp salt
- 4 TBS corn starch
- 1/2 cup cold water
- Steaks:
- 3 lb ground beef
- 1 cup dry bread crumbs
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 2 TBS all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 TBS Worcestershire sauce
- 1 TBS yellow mustard
Preparation
Step 1
Soup:
In large saucepan, heat oil and molasses. Saute onions until soft and sticky (5-7 minutes), stirring occasionally. Whisk in beef stock and 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce, onion powder and salt. Bring to a boil. Combine corn starch and water. Pour into boiling stock. Whisk until thickened. Remove from heat.
Steaks:
In a large bowl mix together 2/3 cup French onion soup, ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, salt, and black pepper. Make sure its all blended well. Shape into 9 patties.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown both sides of the patties. Pour off the fat.
In a mixing bowl, blend flour and soup until smooth. Mix in ketchup, water, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Pour evenly over the patties in each skillet. Cover, and cook for 20 minutes.
Serve with rice.
