Ingredients

  • Topping:
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 4 Tbp orange juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • Filling:
  • 4 cups sliced apples
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 Tbp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp orange peel
  • Deep dish crust
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • juice and grated rind of one lemon
  • 3 Tbp butter

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Mix all the topping ingredients in a bowl until crumbly and set aside.

Combine the apples, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, cornstarch, orange peel, lemon juice and rind. Mix well. Turn into the pastry shell and dot with butter. Cover with the crumb topping.
Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees and then reduce teh heat to 300 degrees and bake for 30 minutes. Remove and cool on a wire rack.
