Preparation

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 400°F.

In a large skillet, cook and crumble the sausage over medium heat until browned, 8 to 10 minutes. Drain.

On a lightly floured surface, roll the bread dough into a 12-by-16-inch rectangle. Place on a greased baking sheet.

In a medium bowl, combine the sausage, tomatoes, 1 teaspoon of the oil, 1/2 teaspoon of the Italian seasoning, and the garlic. Spread this mixture over the dough rectangle to within 1 inch from the edge; top with the mozzarella cheese. Starting at the long edge, carefully roll the dough jellyroll-style. Tuck the ends under, and make certain that the seam side is down. With a sharp knife, cut four 2-inch-long diagonal slits on the top of the stromboli to vent.

In a small bowl, combine the remaining oil with the remaining Italian seasoning. Brush the dough with this mixture. Sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before slicing.
