Ingredients

  • Cookies:
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt, such as grey sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • Frosting:
  • 2 sticks (1 cup) butter
  • 1 pound powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon salt (to taste)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Preparation

Step 1

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
3. Add the sour cream and mix well.
4. Add the egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
5. Add the vanilla and mix.
6. In a separate bowl, combine the salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
7. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well.
8. Drop by rounded tablespoons on to parchment paper-lined baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F. until just turning golden on the bottom, approximately 13-16 minutes.
9. Let cool completely before frosting.
10. While the cookies are cooling, make the frosting by first creaming the butter until light and fluffy.
11. Gradually add the powdered sugar and beat well.
12. Add the vanilla and salt, and mix well.
13. Slowly add the cream until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
14. You may add food coloring if desired.
