Cooked Egg Nog

Ingredients

  • Whipped Topping:
  • 12 egg yolks
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • Freshly ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 4 tablespoons of sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Cook the egg yolks, sugar, vanilla, and
milk in a double boiler until it thickens and
is a light lemon color, stirring occasionally.
When it thinly coats a spoon remove it and
place the pan in an ice bath. Stir until cold.
Add half and half and heavy cream.
Stir in nutmeg. Chill for an hour to 24 hours.

Before serving, beat heavy cream and sugar
with an electric mixer until soft peaks form to
make the whipped topping.

Put egg nog in a punch bowl and fold in
the whipped topping. Sprinkle with
nutmeg if desired.
