Sundaes with Fig-Port Sauce

As much as a day before the party, prep & refrigerate port sauce & freeze bowls of pre-scooped ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 4 c ruby port
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 1/2 lb fresh or dried mission figs, trimmed & quartered
  • 6 thin orange slices
  • 2 star anise
  • Ice Cream
  • Chopped Walnuts, for garnish

Preparation

Step 1

1. In a heavy saucepan bring port, 2c H2O, & sugar to a boil.
2. Stir until the sugar dissolves, ~3 min.
3. Reduce heat & simmer for 25 min, or until port is syrupy.
4. Stir in figs, orange slices, let steep 20 min.
5. Discard orange slices & anise.
6. Serve over ice cream.
