Deep Dish Sausage Pizza

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 16-ounce loaf frozen white-bread dough, thawed
  • 8 ounces Italian sausage
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (6 ounces)
  • 3 to 4 roma tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup thinly sliced onion
  • 1/3 cup short, thin green sweet pepper strips
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning, crushed
  • 1/2 cup finely shredded Parmesan cheese

Preparation

Step 1

For crust, witn oiled fingers stretch and pat thawed dough in the bottom of a lightly greased 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Brush dough with remaining oil. Cover and let rise in a warm place until nearly doubled (30 to 45 minutes). Bake in a 425° oven for 10 minutes or until crust is light brown.
Meanwhile, remove casings from sausage, if present. In a skillet cook sausage until no longer pink, breaking up the sausage. (lf desired, cook onion and sweet pepper strips with sausage until vegetables are desired doneness.) Drain off fat. Remove crust from oven. If necessary, carefully push down the bubble of dough in the center of pan with a spatula. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Top with sausage, tomatoes, onion, and sweet pepper strips. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese.
Return pizza to oven and bake 15 to 20 minutes more or until crust is golden and topping is bubbly.
