Damn Decent Brownies

  • 1

Ingredients

  • 3 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 8 Tablespoons margarine
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350. Butter an 8 inch square pan.

Begin to melt the chocolate and butter in a double boiler over simmering water. When they're half melted, turn off the heat and let them continue to melt over the gradually cooling water, stirring once in a while. Let them sit while you go on to the next step.

Beat the eggs, sugar, and salt in a large bowl with an electric mixer for 8 to 10 minutes, or until very thick and very pale. Beat in the vanilla. Fold in the slightly cooled chocolate mixture, then fold in the flour and last of all, the chocolate chips. Scrape the batter into the prepared pan.

Bake the brownies for 15 minutes. This is the correct amount of time, assuming your oven is accurate. (there is no doneness test for these brownies.) Cool them to room temperature on a wire rack; then chill them for at least 2 hours. Serve them very cold.
