This recipe was conceived in the grocery store aisle many years ago and was a staple in our family for years. Imagine my surprise when my husband entered it in a chili contest and we took first place!more
lb extra lean ground beef
lb roll of pork breakfast sausage
onion, chopped (optional)
packages of Brooks Chili Seasoning
28 oz can of tomato sauce or diced tomatoes in juice, your choice
30.5 oz can of Brooks Chili Hot Beans (must be the hot ones, the mild will be too bland)
If your family likes spicier chili, then buy the 40 oz size can of chili hot beans.
We like diced onion, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, and saltines.
Brown the pork and beef together in a dutch oven over medium heat along with onion, if using. Do not drain the mixture after browning, simply add in the chili seasonings, tomatoes and beans. Cover and allow to simmer at least 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
