Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped dates
- 3/4 cup chopped nuts
- 1 1/2 tsp soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 Tbsp butter or margarine
- 3/4 cup boiling water
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 eggs, slightly beated

Step 1
In large bowl, combine first six ingredients; cool to lukewarm, about 10 minutes. Hat oven to 350 degrees. Grease (not oil) bottom only of 9 x 5 or 8 x 4 inch loaf pan. (Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off). Add remaining ingredients to date mixture; stir just until dry ingredients are moistened. Pour batter into greased pan. Bake 55 to 65 minutes until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool inpan 10 minutes; remove and cool completely.
