Beef Pasty Pie

Ingredients

  • 2 T olive oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 2 c cooked diced potatoes
  • 1 c cooked, diced carrots
  • 2 teas ground allspice
  • 1 teas salt
  • 1/4 teas pepper
  • Pastry for double crust pie
  • 1 egg beaten, optional

Preparation

Step 1

In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Saute onion until tender. Remove and set aside. Brown beef and pork together, drain. Combine onion, meat, potatoes and seasonings. Line pie plate with pastry. Fill with meat mixture. Top with other crust. Seal and flute edges. Make slits in top crust. Brush with egg. Bake at 375 for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

Note: I just boiled the carrots and potatoes until they were slightly tender but not mushy. They will cook in the pie.
