Country Bread Dressing

Easy and tasty dressing to go with turkey or ham for the holidays. Remember to leave bread out uncovered the night before.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound hot Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large onion, finely diced
  • 1 large carrot, finely diced
  • 2 stalks celery, finely diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 6 fresh sage leaves, chopped or 1 tablespoon dry Italian seasoning
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 4 cups stale bread, cut into big cubes and left out overnight to dry
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cup warm chicken stock

Step 1

Preheat oven to 425°F.

Heat large saute pan over high heat, add sausage & cook until golden brown. Remove sausage, add butter into pan. Add onions,celery, carrots and cook until soft. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute. Season to taste with salt & pepper.

Remove mixture from heat, fold in sage (or Italian seasoning). Scrape mixture into large bowl and let cool slightly. Add the egg and bread, mix to coat.

Add chicken stock until mixture is moist. Season with salt & pepper.

Place mixture into a large buttered baking dish and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or til golden brown.
