Ingredients

  • 2 c flour
  • 1-1/2 c light brown sugar, divided
  • 1 t salt, divided
  • 2 c cold unsalted butter, divided
  • 1-1/2 t vanilla, divided
  • 1/4 c light corn syrup
  • 1-14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
  • 3/4 lb. high quality dark or milk chocolate

Step 1

Preheat oven to 325. Butter the bottom and sides of 9x13" pan, layer with parchment paper and butter the paper.
Measure flour, 1/2 c brown sugar and 1/2 t salt into food processor and pulse until mixed. Add 1 c of butter chunks, and pulse until roughly mixed. Sprinkle in 1/2 t vanilla, continue to process until dough begins to form a ball. remove from the processor and press evenly over bottom of pan. Bake for 35-40 mins, turning pan halfway through.
To make the caramel, melt the remaining 1 c butter over low heat. Stir in remaining 1 c brown sugar, corn syrup and condensed milk. Raise heat to med low, bring to a boil, stirring constantly, for 4 mins. Remove from the heat; stir in the remaining 1/2 t salt, then 1 t vanilla. Pour evenly over baked crust; let cool.
Melt chocolate, then pour evenly over the caramel layer. Cool completely in the pan, then use parchment paper to lift out. Cut into squares.
