Ingredients
- 2/3 cup butter or margarine
- 2 cups (12 oz.) chocolate chips
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups flour
- 1 cup quick cooking oats
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup chopped walnuts -- optional
Preparation

Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan and preheat the oven to 350.
Melt the butter and 1 cup of chocolate chips in a small pot over very low heat. When the chocolate is almost melted, turn off the heat and let it cool. The heat of the pot will melt the remaining chocolate.
Put the sugar, eggs and vanilla in a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer on high speed for 2 minutes until pale and frothy. Add the chocolate mixture and beat on low for about 15 seconds. Add the flour, oats, baking powder and salt and mix just until blended. Add remaining cup of chips and walnuts, if using.
Pour batter into pan and spread evenly. It will be very thick. Bake 25 to 30 minutes. Remove and cool for 15 minutes.
