Double Chocolate Scones

By

This is another recipe that I almost have memorized because it is requested so frequently. My kids love this recipe and I freeze the leftovers and have them on cold mornings with a hot cup of tea! Memorable!

Preparation

Step 1

1. Mix together flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Using a pastry blender cut in the butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
2. In a small bowl, stir together egg, 1/2 C whipping cream and vanilla. Add egg mixture to dry mixture. Add chocolate pieces and nuts (optional). Using a fork, stir just until moistened.
3. Knead the dough for about 10-12 strokes or until the dough is nearly smooth. Cut the dough out with a biscuit cutter, in wedge shapes or put into a scone pan.
4. Bake at 400 after brushing scones with additional whipping cream and sprinkling with coarse sugar for approx. 12 to 14 min. or until bottoms are lightly browned. Makes about 12 scones.
