Streusel Crumb Topped Apple Pie - Great Dinners from Life Cookbook

Tart Granny Smith apples and nutmeg are key to giving this pie a tangy flavor. This recipe is very easy to make, yet produces a quality apple pie. Best served warm with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with warm caramel sauce is nice too.

Ingredients
- Topping:
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell, frozen, preferably a name brand
- 2/3 C flour
- 1/3 C light brown sugar
- 1/3 c butter
- Filling:
- 2-1/4 lbs tart cooking apples (about 7 cups sliced)
- 2/3 to 3/4 C sugar
- 2 T flour
- 3/4 t cinnamon
- 1/2 t nutmeg
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Prepare piei shell using favorite mix. Refrigerate until ready to use. For the topping, mix the flour with the brown sugar in medium sized bowl. Cut in the butter until it resembles coarse meal, using pastry blender or two knives Set aside.
For the filling peel, core, and cut apples into thin slices. Mix the sugar, flour cinnamon and nutmeg together. Toss this mixture lightly with the apples. Turn them into chilled pie shell, spreading them as evenly as possible. Sprinkle the topping mixture over the apples, patting it down evenly. Place the pie on the middle rack of the oven. Bake until apples are tender and juices bubble around the edges, from 45-60 min.
