Steel-cut oats are whole oats that have been thinly sliced into pieces. They are different than rolled oats which are oats that have been heated until soft and pressed flat.

Ingredients

  • Serve with Optional toppings:
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup Steel Cut Oats (Azure)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon lite maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Splenda Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 cup 2% Milk
  • or
  • Your favorite fruit or crunchy topping

Preparation

Step 1

Place all ingredients except for the Brown sugar and Milk into a 2-quart pot and stir briefly and bring to boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and keep on a very low simmer for 20-25 minutes.

For a less cooking time, soak 1/2 cup steel cut oats in 2-quart pan with 2 cups of water for 8-12 hours or overnight. In the morning add remaining ingredients, bring to boil, reduce heat to low and simmer, stirring constantly for 5 minutes.

Serve with Splenda Brown Sugar and Milk and/or your favorite toppings that can give you fruity taste or a yummy crunch to your breakfast, they can add fat and protein to these nourishing fiber-rich whole grains.
