Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons yeast (2 pkgs)
- 2 cups shortening
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 5 pounds flour
- 5 teaspoons salt
Preparation
Step 1
Put 2 tablespoons yeast in 2 cups warm water, set aside.
Put 5 pounds flour in large container.
Mix in 1 cup sugar and 5 teaspoon salt.
Add 2 cups shortening and cut in until consistency of cornmeal.
Throw in a pinch of sugar.
Add flour into yeast mix and proof.
Add 4 cups water and yeast mix to flour.
Cover and let rest overnight.
Next day, place dough on floured surface and divide into 6 equal loaves.
Pat into greased pans. Let rise again-3 hours or so.
Bake 55 minutes at 300.
