Ingredients

  • 2

    pkgs. dry yeast

  • ¼

    cup lukewarm water

  • 2

    cups boiling water

  • 1

    cup regular rolled oats

  • ½

    cup honey

  • ¼

    cup oil

  • ½

    cup powered milk

  • teaspoons salt

  • 6

    cups sifted whole wheat flour

Directions

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Place rolled oats in a large bowl and add the boiling water. Let stand until lukewarm, approximately 20 minutes. Add yeast mixture, let stand 5 minutes. Add honey and oil. Sift dry ingredients together twice, then add to mixture in small amounts at a time. Knead until the dough is like elastic, approximately 10 minutes. Put dough into a greased bowl, cover and let rise until double in size. Punch dough down, knead once again. Shape into two loaves letting rise 10 minutes in a warm place covered with a dish towel. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Turn out of pans and brush with butter.
