Ingredients

  • 1

    lb butter (softened)

  • 1

    cup sugar (superfine is better)

  • 4-5

    cups sifted All Purpose Flour

Directions

Knead all of the above ingredients in a bowl with hands until a dough forms (until it does not stick to the sides of the bowl). Pat mixture down onto an ungreased cookie sheet so it is about 1/2 inch thick. Press down the edges with a fork. Pierce holes randomly throughout the shortbread with a fork. Bake at 300 degrees (in a preheated oven) for 30 to 35 minutes until the edges are just turning golden brown. Allow shortbread to cook on the cookie sheet. Cut into squares. Optional - Dust with powdered sugar.
