Ingredients

  • Cake:
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 oz red food coloring
  • 2 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 cup sour or butter milk
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1 1/2 sugar
  • 2 tablespoon cocoa
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • Frosting:
  • 5 tablespoon four
  • 1 cup milk
  • Cream:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Cake:
Mix first 2 ingredients into a cream. Add remaining cake ingredients, blend well. Use 3 layers and bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes

Frosting:
Cook to a paste and cool

Cream:
Mix first two ingredients and add to cooled frosting mix, then add vanilla. Beat until fluffy like whipping cream. Add coconut if desired.
