Date and Nut Bread (Helen Pickering)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped dates
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 cups flour, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Grease a loaf pan for baking.

Cover dates with boiling water.

Add butter, eggs and sugar. Let cool.

Add sifted flour, and dry ingredients.

Add walnuts and vanilla extract. Mix well.

Bake for 40 minutes, or until center of bread comes out clean when a toothpick is inserted.
