  • sour cream sauce:
  • 3 oranges
  • 1 grapefruit
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 bananas
  • 4 tb butter
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup dairy sour cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Step 1

1) Peel the oranges, removing all white spongy exterior. Cut between the membranes to section. Repeat the process with the grapefruit. Combine the fruit sections with sugar and chill thoroughly.

2) When ready to serve, drain the citrus, then slice the bananas and carefully mix in. Spoon into sherbert glasses and top with the hot sour cream sauce.

3) Sour cream sauce: Melt the butter in a saucepan. Add the brown sugar. Cook over low heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in the sour cream and vanilla. Continue cooking just long enough to heat the cream. (Do not allow it to boil, or the cream will curdle). Use immediately, or keep warm over hot water.
